Procedure:
People are simply too busy for the hours of sitting it would require for a formal portrait and this is an impossible task for children.
It is because of this that it is necessary for me to spend some time (1-3 hours) with a subject in a setting of their choice. During this time, I will take approximately 100 photos using different lighting, poses and settings. I may also do sketches and/or a small color study. From this opportunity, I also learn about the subject through discussion and observation. Understanding the spirit of a person is crucial to a successful portrait. I believe this technique gives me the necessary information needed to create the desired portrait.
I will consult periodically with the client throughout the process to ensure the portrait is what they have envisioned.
The portrait is complete not only when I am satisfied with the personality and likeness of the subject, but more importantly when the client is.
